GLSCL roundup: Locos fall to Hamilton on the road

With Saturday night’s win, Hamiton officially clinched the GLSCL regular season championship and the top seed in next week’s playoffs.

The Joes originally held a six-run lead before the Locos stormed back to tie things up at nine in the eighth inning.

Tommy Harrison (Miami University) accounted for the go-ahead run when he scored on a single from Bryce Habuda (Pasco Hernando Community College) in the ninth.

For the Joes, Charlie Niehaus (University of Cincinnati) went 3 for 5 in the win, while Cam Gilkerson (Wright State University) and Brayden Fraasman (North Carolina State University) recorded two hits.

Abe Crall (Wright State University) was the winner after he limited the Locos to one hit over the final five outs.

Both of Hamilton’s runs in the ninth were unearned. Thomas Howard (John A Logan College) took the loss in his lone inning of work.

For the Locos, Sebastian Alexander went 4 for 5 and Justin Gorski (Miami University), Lou Fujiwara (transfer portal), Blake Bowen (University of Akron) and Caden Lockwood (Ball State University) recorded two-hit games.

After a league-wide off day on Sunday, the Locos open their final series of the regular season against Grand Lake on Monday in Celina.

Michigan Monarchs 13, Grand Lake Mariners 2

Michigan bounced back from a Friday night loss for a dominant victory over Grand Lake in seven innings.

The first four Monarchs in the order each had two hits, a group that includes Alonzo Paul (Ohio State University), Reginald Sharpe (Michigan State University), Ty Garza (Wayne State University) and Lucas Rick.

Michigan’s starter Daniel Wilcome (Saginaw Valley State University) got the win after going five innings and limiting the Mariners to two earned runs in four innings.

JT Fabian (West Virginia State University) was charged with the loss after he allowed eight earned runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Drew Emerson (Ohio Dominican University) paced Grand Lake’s offense with two hits out of the leadoff spot, while Ethyn Barnitz (West Virginia State University) drove in two runs.

Michigan’s win brings its record to 15-18, while Grand Lake falls to 10-23.

Xenia Scouts 5, Muskegon Clippers 2

Xenia scored three times on a home run from Kaden Wu (Belmont University) in the sixth inning to pull away for a win over Muskegon.

Wu, Will Lawrence (Samford University) and Eli Steadman (James Madison University) drove in all five of Xenia’s runs and Jacob Winzread (University of Southern Indiana) recorded a three-hit game.

Brenden Holland (Lourdes University) was victorious on the mound after he limited Muskegon to two runs in six innings.

Will DeMasse (Wayne State University) started and took the loss for the Clippers after he allowed five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Sam Clay (Davenport University) had two of his team’s six hits.

Xenia is now 17-19. Muskegon sits at 19-14 and remains in a tie for second place with Lima.
