Three former champions in city tournament semifinals

And now there are four.

All nine flights in the Lima City Men’s Golf Championship were reduced to the four semifinalists on day three of the tournament at Hidden Creek Golf Club on Friday.

In the Championship Flight, the three most recent champions — Guillermo Menacho (2023), Zach Miller (2022) and Josh Hollar (2021) have advanced to the semifinals, along with Braden Beachy, who was also a semifinalist last year.

Hollar and Miller will play in one Championship Flight semfinal on Saturday at the Shawnee Country Club and Menacho and Beachy will compete in the other semifinal.

Hollar defeated Kayne Richardson 1-up, 19 holes to get to the semifinals. Miller was a 4-and-3 winner over Alex Odenweller to reach the semifinals for the second time. Beachy’s 2-and-1 win over Myron Meas sent him to the semifinals and Menacho beat Logan Dray 1-up for the fourth spot in the semifinals.

“I knew Kayne was going to be tough and he was tough. I just outlasted him. That’s what I did,” Hollar said.

Miller said, “I hit the ball pretty good for the most part. I just made a lot of pars and a few birdies.”
