Roundup: Baumgartner, Honigford lead area swimmers at Division II state finals

CANTON — Ada’s Lily Baumgartner finished third and fifth respectively in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 backstroke in the Division II state swim finals Friday at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

In the boys event, Wapakoneta’s Alex Honigford tied for fourth in the 50 freestyle and was fourth in the 100 freestyle. He also joined Owen Becker, Ross Honigford and Luke Wierwille in finishing fifth in the 200 medley relay and Wierwille, Becker and Gannon Casebolt in finishing sixth in the 200 freestyle relay. Wapakoneta finished sixth in the team standings with 88.5 points. Hunting Valley University School finished first with a 290.5 total.

New Bremen’s Andy Jiang was eighth in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. New Bremen (22) was 30th, Celina (9) tied for 48th, Ottawa-Glandorf (6) was 54th, Van Wert (5) tied for 55th, St. Marys (4) was 59th and Bluffton (2) finished tied for 66th.

ROSSFORD — St. Marys won the championship at Interstate Lanes with a 3,621 total. Perkins (3,549) and New Bremen (3,524) also advanced to state.

St. Marys’ Kayla Homan had the high three-game series of 627. Coldwater’s Jasmine Schulze (555) finished seventh. No area bowlers advanced individually.

PAULDING — Austin Miller had 35 points and Will McBride Dominic Lynch scored 21 and 11 respectively for the Indians (12-12), who advanced to play Defiance (19-4) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Liberty-Benton.

PAULDING — Braylon Gabes had 19 points and Grant Duncan scored nine for Celina (4-20).

St. Marys 75, Fostoria 47

LIMA — Austin Parks (27), Jace Turner (21), Evan Angstmann (14) and Cobain Owens (10) each scored in double digits for the Roughriders (18-5), who will play Van Wert, a 65-34 winner against Elida, at 6 p.m. Thursday at Liberty-Benton.

LIMA — Third-seeded Van Wert cruised to a sectional championship at Lima Senior.

MILLER CITY — The Bearcats (20-2) advanced to play Liberty-Benton, a 38-37 winner against Carey, at 7:30 p.m. at Lima Senior. Grove finished its season (8-15).

VAN WERT — Cameron Elwer had 22 points and Nolan Schwinnen scored 13 for DSJ (16-8), which will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elida.

VAN WERT — Carson Hunter had (16), Mitch Temple (14) and Wren Sheets (13) scored in double digits for Crestview (20-3). Silas Niese had 12 points and Andon Ruhe scored nine for Miller City (14-9).

Marion Local 65, Ada 38

ST. MARYS — Jadyn Mescher (16), Tate Hess (12) and Luke Pohlman (11) reached double digits for the Flyers (19-4), who advanced to play Fort Recovery (15-9), which defeated Upper Scioto Valley (16-7) 61-50, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MINSTER — St. Marys (3,958), Wapakoneta (3,881), Celina (3,833) and Shawnee (3,614) were the top four finishers at Community Lanes to earn district berths.

St. Marys’ Cayden Ballweg had the high three-game series of 651. Wapakoneta’s Reiley Sevillano (649), St. Marys’ Jack Boos (609) and Celina’s Marcus Rable (603) and Cavhan Wagnild (602) also finished in the top five.

Elida’s Ethan Ramsdail (589) and Xavier Boop (540) and Van Wert’s Nevin Pierce (555) advanced individually.
