Roundup: Coldwater collects boys district bowling crown

ROSSFORD — Coldwater finished first Thursday during the Division II boys district bowling competition at Interstate Lanes.

The Cavaliers finished with a 4,171 team total with Liberty Center (3,950) and Minster (3,943) also advancing by finishing in the top three.

Coldwater’s Hayden Beougher had top three-game series with a 670. Teammates Carter Bertke (628) and Brandon Hammons (591) were third and seventh respectively. Minster’s Wyatt Kemper (606) and Xavier Kitzmiller (584) were fifth and 10th respectively.

Bath 38, Liberty-Benton 30

PAULDING — Elena Oliver had 18 points, Claire Foust scored 10 and contributed 17 rebounds and Rachel Clark finished with four assists for the Wildkittens (20-4) against the district’s top seed (21-3). Bath will play for a regional berth at 6 p.m. Saturday against Bryan (22-2) at Paulding.

Bryan 47, St. Marys 39

PAULDING — Morgan Hesse had 12 points and Cora Rable scored 11 for the Roughriders, who finished their season 14-11.

WAPAKONETA — Lindsey Koenig had 12 point and Hanna Rose scored eight for the Flyers (21-4), who will play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Wapakoneta. Ella Pape and Chloe Homan each had 11 points for the Cardinals, who finished their season at 11-13.

Minster 35, St. Henry 33

WAPAKONETA — Lily Barhorst had 21 points and Addi Inskeep scored six for the Wildcats (14-10). Molly Wendel had 11 points Leah Lefeld scored six for the Redskins, who finished their season at 16-9.

Crestview 56, Pettisville 35

DEFIANCE — The Knights (20-4) advanced to play Ayersville, a 39-34 winner against Stryker, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Defiance High School.

CANTON — Wapakoneta’s Alex Honigford qualified for the finals in the 50 and 100 freestyles with third and fourth place finishes respectively. The top eight finishers advance to the finals.

Honigford also joined Owen Becker, Ross Honigford and Luke Wierwille with a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay and Wierwille, Gannon Casebolt and Becker for a fifth place in the 200 freestyle relay.

New Bremen’s Andy Jiang was eighth in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

In the girls competition, Ada’s Lily Baumgartner was third in the 100 butterfly and fifth in 100 backstroke.

MINSTER — Wapakoneta (3,541), Van Wert (3,300), Shawnee (3,199) and Celina (3,115) finished in the top four at Community Lanes to qualify for districts.

Van Wert’s Ryleigh Hanicq had the high three-game series with a 563 total. Wapakoneta’s Rylie Jeanneret (552) and Bailey Van Meter (539), Van Wert’s Mercades Hammond (536), Shawnee’s Olivia Miller (522), Lima Senior’s Tatum Twining (510), Celina’s Chablis Krick (499) and Marissa Hole (494), Van Wert’s Makenna Nagel (475) and Wapak’s Alayna Spangler (467) also finished in the top 10.

ADA — Senior Brynn Serbin made two free throws with five seconds left to send No. 18 Ohio Northern to a victory against Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win, the top-seeded Polar Bears (22-4) advance to the OAC Tournament finals to face No. 2 seed Marietta (20-6), which defeated third-seeded Baldwin Wallace 71-65 in Thursday’s other semifinal.

Northern will host Marietta in Saturday’s championship game at 2 p.m. This marks ONU’s first OAC Tournament finals appearance since the 2018-19 season.

Fourth-seeded Otterbein ends its season at 17-10 overall.

Sophomore Brooke Allen led the way for ONU on Thursday, posting a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.

Serbin added 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals to go with nine points from junior Grace Dean.

ONU’s Napier named

2nd team all-OAC

ADA — Ohio Northern’s C.J. Napier was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team for the 2022-23 season in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Napier is now a four-time All-OAC selection after being named to the second team as a sophomore and earning jonorable mention honors as a freshman and junior.
