O-G finishes No. 1 in final AP poll

COLUMBUS — Ottawa-Glandorf finished No. 1 in the Division III Associated Press Ohio High School Athletic Association poll released Monday.

The Titans (19-3) finished off the regular season with a 70-23 win over Kenton to capture the Western Buckeye League crown.

In Division IV, Crestview (19-3) fell one spot to No. 5 and Kalida (18-4) jumped one spot to No. 9.

Ottoville’s Kellen Schlagbaum was tabbed the Putnam Country Player of the Year and Kalida’s Ryan Stechschulte garnered top coach accolades.

Joining Schlagbaum on the first team were Jarron Swick (Fort Jennings), Jaden Smith (Kalida), Evan Stechschulte (Kalida), and Aiden Harris (Pandora-Gilboa).

Making the second team were Trenton Barraza (Columbus Grove), Konner Knipp Williams (Continental ), Paul Maag (Leipsic), Carter Horstman (Ottoville) and Colin Harris (Pandora-Gilboa)

Honorable mention selections were Todd Koch (Columbus Grove), Kyle Hopkins (Columbus Grove), Rhenn Armey (Continental), Chase Neidert (Fort Jennings), Brandt Menke (Fort Jennings), Drew Fersch (Kalida), Ethan Warnecke (Kalida), Ty Lammers (Leipsic), Trent Siefker (Leipsic), Thomas Weis (Miller City), Silas Niese (Miller City), Michael Turnwald (Ottoville), Alex Suever (Ottoville), Derek Maag (Pandora-Gilboa) and Aiden Morris (Pandora-Gilboa).

Ohio Elks Association Hoop Shoot Competition

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks held the state Hoop Shoot Competition Saturday in Newark, Ohio.

Representing the Northwest Ohio District Elks Lodges were (8-9 Girls) Maggie Schoenlein representing Mercer Co Elks Lodge #2170, (10-11 Girls) Kynlee Geary from Delphos representing Van Wert Elks Lodge #1197, (12-13 Girls) Brylee Geary from Delphos representing Lima Elks Lodge #54, (8-9 Boys) Jack Clark from Delphos representing Findlay Elks Lodge #75, Easton Borders representing Findlay Elks Lodge #75 and (12-13 Boys) from Delphos representing Lima Elks Lodge #54.

Kynlee Geary shot 15 of 25 to place first and Keaton Elwer shot 24 of 25 to place first

Kynlee and Keaton will complete at the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot competition in South Bend, IN on Mar. 18.

The Elks National “Hoop Shoot” free throw shooting contest, founded in 1971, is the largest most visible of the many youth activities throughout the country. The contest is funded entirely by the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America.
