Roundup: St. Marys claims WBL boys bowling crown

WAPAKONETA — St. Marys won the team tournament Thursday at Astro Lanes after going 9-0 in Western Buckeye League boys bowling matches this season.

The Roughriders finished with a tournament total of 3,667 followed by Wapakoneta (3,575), Kenton (3,500), Celina (3,279), Bath (3,114), Van Wert (3,072), Shawnee (3,037), Ottawa-Glandorf (3,010), Defiance (2,933) and Elida (2,892).

Bath’s Payton Newbury had the high three-game series (600) with Wapakoneta’s Reiley Sevillano (592), St. Marys’ Cyrus Kerr (589), O-G’s Aiden Ruhe (560), Wapak’s Lance Deffenbaugh (554), Celina’s Timothy Novitzke (551), St. Marys’ Cayden Ballweg (543), Van Wert’s Hayden Davis (542), Defiance’s Levi Goff (529) and Kenton’s Adam Hopkins (527) also finishing in the top 10.

Newbury earned Bowler of the Year honors with Sevillano, Ballweg, Davis, Shawnee’s Dean Dunlap and Hopkins joining him on the first team.

COLUMBUS GROVE — Lyv Lindeman had 25 points and Lauren French scored 10 for Jefferson (20-1), which moved to 7-0 in the Northwest Conference. Lauryn Auchmuty had 14 points for Grove (13-8, 4-4 NWC).

Kenton 71, Shawnee 65

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Ali Harpel (26), Macee Heckathorn (16), Gabi Wetherill (14) and Sadie Larrabee (11) scored in double digits for the visiting Wildcats (10-12, 5-4 WBL). Grace Freiberger had 32 points, Sydney Burris scored 17 and Ania Pearson finished with eight points for the host Indians (8-13, 4-5 WBL).

LIMA — Ti’ana Spivey had 16 points and seven rebounds, Tillie Nelson scored seven and contributed seven rebounds and Maisie Strawser finished with four assists and six steals for the host Spartans (5-17, 1-13 Three Rivers Athletic Conference).

MINSTER — Katie McClurg had 14 points and Sadie Niemeyer scored eight for the host Wildcats (12-10, 7-2 MAC). Chloe Homan had 19 points and Abigale Powers scored 12 for the Cardinals (10-12, 3-6 MAC).

SPENCERVILLE — Kirsten Wurst (22), Gabi Croft (17) and Heidi Keller (13) each scored in double digits for the host Bearcats (11-11, 4-4 NWC). Courtney Sumner had 21 points and Lexi Poling scored nine for the Bulldogs (11-12, 0-8 NWC).

BLUFFTON — Rilynn Jones (15), Elle Richardson (14) and Savana Brooks (11) scored in double digits for the Mustangs (15-6, 4-4 NWC). Riley Eachus had nine points and Ayla Grandey scored eight for the Pirates (13-8, 1-7 NWC).

Parkway 47, St. Henry 40

ST. HENRY — The Panthers (20-2) nabbed a share of the MAC championship for the first time in school history at 8-1. Paige Williamson, who tied a school record with seven 3-pointers, had 21 points and Gabrielle Stober scored 13 for Parkway. Molly Wendel and Jalynn Everman each had 10 points for the Redskins (14-8, 4-5 MAC).
