Browns’ Landry says he will be ready to go sometime in August

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list Sunday, a day before veterans are slated to begin training camp conditioning workouts.

A five-time Pro Bowler, Landry underwent hip surgery on Feb. 4. The team said Landry had not experienced a setback in his rehabilitation and is still on schedule.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about Landry during a Zoom call with local media Thursday and said he would know more after the veterans underwent physicals on Saturday and Sunday.

“He remains on schedule, based on everything he has done post-surgery,” Stefanski said.

Active/PUP is used for players unable to start training camp with a football-related injury and carries no designation for how long they must be sidelined.

Discussing his status in a May 20 Zoom call with local media, Landry said his rehab had been “going great,” despite the limitations during the coronavirus pandemic.

“With some of the modality type of things that I have been doing and with quarantine and everything, I have not been able to have access to, that has kind of been the toughest part of it,” Landry said then. “Right now, I am a little bit ahead of schedule. But the most important thing right now is just taking it day by day. I can’t predict when exactly I will be able to([return) … obviously, my return date is sometime in August.”

Landry’s 1,174 receiving yards ranked 10th in the league last season and were the most by a Brown since Josh Gordon totaled 1,646 in 2013. With 83 catches, Landry became the first Browns receiver to record back-to-back seasons with 70 or more receptions, joining tight ends Ozzie Newsome and Kellen Winslow.

The Browns also put wide receiver J’Mon Moore (hamstring) on the active/non-football injury list.
