Toledo postponement impacts Lima Senior, LCC football, other sports

LIMA — The Toledo City League suspending the start of fall athletics until at least Oct. 1 means Lima Senior will not play Bowsher to open its football season Aug. 28 at Spartan Stadium.

Lima Senior athletic director John Zell said he has reached out to some other schools with openings after scheduled opponents had their seasons canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lima Senior also had two girls and three boys soccer matches also impacted by the postponement. Zell said he is going to explore trying to replace those matches as well.

Lima Central Catholic was scheduled to play at Rogers on Sept. 25 in football. LCC athletic director John Schnieders has not officially heard from Rogers but has already started checking with schools in the same situation in order to find an opponent for that weekend. Schneiders said LCC is still planning to play a 10 game schedule.

Other than Bowsher and Rogers, league members include Scott, Start, Waite and Woodward.
