Boys basketball
COLUMBUS — Dave Kleman, whose Ottoville girls basketball teams won more than 500 games, and Chris Adams, whose Elida and Springfield Catholic boys basketball teams won nearly 400 games, will be inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in April.
Ottoville won 532 games in Kleman’s 27 years as its coach, went to eight state tournaments and won 12 Putnam County League titles and 14 district championships. Fourteen of his 27 teams won 20 or more games. Kleman retired after last season.
Adams’ teams won 380 games in 21 seasons at Elida and three seasons at Springfield Catholic Central. He has been the athletic director at the University of Northwestern Ohio for the last 13 years and was the Racers’ men’s head basketball coach for 10 years.
Longtime Wooster Triway coach Randy Montgomery and former Shenandoah coach Dan Schwieterman will also join the OHSBCA Hall of Fame.
Montgomery’s teams won 600 games in 38 seasons at Wooster Triway, North Canton Hoover and West Branch. Schwieterman had 532 wins in 34 years at Shenandoah.
The induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame will be at the Columbus Marriott University Area at 3100 Olentangy River Road in Columbus at 5:30 p.m. on April 25.

Matter named to Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame
Former Bluffton High School and Ohio State women’s basketball standout Caity Matter Henniger is part of the 2020 class of the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.
Matter Henniger scored 2,274 points and averaged 24.8 points a game in her four seasons at Bluffton. She went on to score 1,523 points at OSU, where she is No. 1 on the career free throw shooting percentage list (.856), second all-time in career 3-pointers (270) and third in career 3-point percentage (.411).
She also was a two-time state champion in the discus and shot put while in high school.
Bowling Green State University’s Antonio Daniels is also being inducted this year. He is No. 2 on the Falcons’ career scoring list in men’s basketball with 1,789 points. He was selected No. 4 overall in the NBA draft in 1997 by the Vancouver Grizzlies and played 14 seasons for seven teams.
The induction ceremony will be June 6 in Columbus.

Lourdes 67, UNOH 51
The Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team shot 43 percent from the field in a 15-15 first quarter, but shot just 23 percent the rest of the way as Lourdes went on to a 67-51 decision in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at the Ebeid Rec Center.
UNOH scored the initial five points of the contest on a Tya Bell (JR/Kansas City, MO) three and a Kimyra McGhee (JR/Chicago, IL) jumper, only to see the Gray Wolves answer with a 13-3 run over the next four minutes.
The Racers, though, came back to tie the score twice over the final 1:21 of the period on a Ronja Orpo (SO/Espoo, Finland) three and another McGhee basket to make it 15-15. Northwestern Ohio hit six of 14 shots in the first quarter while Lourdes made six of 16.
A Tori Lennartz (SR/Fort Recovery, OH) three knotted the score again at 18 at the 6:22 mark of the second period before the Gray Wolves went ahead for good with a 15-4 run to take a 33-22 hafltime lead. Lourdes connected on seven of 11 shots in the quarter while UNOH made just two of 13.
The Racers would get no closer than nine the rest of the way as the Gray Wolves shot 41 percent in the second half to finish at 44 percent overall while Northwestern Ohio shot 26 percent after halftime to end up at 28 percent for the game.
McGhee led UNOH with a near double-double of 15 points and nine rebounds, with the 15 points tying her season high set at Warner on December 17. Lennartz added 12 points and Erin Scott (FR/New Knoxville, OH) nine.
ONU 70, Heidelberg 42
ADA — The Ohio Northern women’s basketball team enjoyed a balanced scoring effort and assist-filled night Wednesday inside the ONU Sports Center. A dozen Polar Bears tallied a point and, as a team, they dished out 19 assists en route to a 70-42 win over Heidelberg.
The victory improved Northern to 10-2 on the season and 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play and stretched its win streak to four games. The loss dropped Heidelberg to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
Junior Sydney Ward (Columbus/Upper Arlington) paced the Polar Bears with 12 points. She was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor and also chipped in five rebounds and two assists.
Sophomore Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) added 11 points, a team-high five assists and four boards. Sophomore Kate Iliff (Lorain/Amherst Steele) netted a career-high nine points, while senior Abby Weeks (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame) chipped in eight points.
Northern shot 48.3 percent (29 of 60) from the floor and 25.9 percent (7 of 27) from 3-point land. The Student Princes connected on 32 percent (16 of 50) of their field-goal attempts and 35.3 percent (6 of 17) of their shots from 3-point land.
Men’s basketball
Heidelberg 70, ONU 51
TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern men’s basketball team took to Heidelberg on Wednesday evening, dropping the contest 70-51 at the Sieberling Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears (4-8 overall, 0-5 OAC) were led by 14 points from freshman C.J. Napier (Miamisburg/Bishop Fenwick).
Sophomore Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) added 11 points and senior Austin Allemeier (Elida) chipped in nine point, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Senior Caleb Bryan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) had nine points and five rebounds off the bench.
Emmanuel Perdue netted 30 points to lead the Student Princes (5-7 overall, 3-2 OAC).
