SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee’s George Mangas 38 points and Tyson Elwer added 14 points and five blocks. John Barker recorded nine points, nine assists and seven steals. For USV, Quinn Sanders scored 20 points and Connor Sanders added 19 points. Jackson Rohrs chipped in 10 points.

Shawnee remains unbeaten at 5-0 and USV falls to 3-3

LIMA — Temple Christian’s Landon Callahan scored 10 points and Joshua Engle added nine points. For Cory-Rawson, Carson Houck and Tommy Stauffer each had 14 points and Keevan Lee added 10 points.

New Knoxville 63, Waynesfield-Goshen 46

WAYNESFIELD — New Knoxville’s Carson Bierlein pumped in with 27 and Patrick Covert followed with 14 points. Waynesfield-Goshen’s Gauge Rumer and Isaiah Sanders each scored 12 points and Layton Campbell added 11 points.

Antwerp 61, Continental 27

CONTINENTAL — Continental’s Gavin Huff scored 12 points and Mitchell Coleman added 11 points.

Antwerp improves to 5-0 and Continental falls to 1-5.

Columbus Grove 45, Elida 35

COLUMBUS GROVE — Columbus Grove’s Abby Gladwell and Angel Schnieder each scored 10 points. For Elida Addisyn Freeman scored 12 points and Rachel Mitchell added 10 points.

Columbus Grove improves to 6-1 and Elida falls to 3-4.

Pandora-Gilboa 46, Upper Scioto Valley 19

PANDORA — Pandora-Gilboa’s Regan Russell scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds and Alexis Augsburger had eight rebounds and eight points. For USV, Allison Moore scored 15 points.

Pandora-Gilboa improves to 1-6 and USV falls to 0-5.

Ottawa-Glandorf 53, Arlington 27

OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf’s Kelsey Erford scored 14 points and Erin Kaufman, who grabbed seven rebounds, notched 11 points. Brianna Schimmoeler added 10 points.

Ottawa-Glandorf improves to 6-0. Arlington falls 5-2.

Kalida 57, Fort Jennings 32

KALIDA — Kalida’s Grace Klausing scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Brooke Vennekotter added 12 points and McKayla Maag chipped in 11 points. For Fort Jennings, Jessie Foust scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Kalida improves t0 2-3 and 1-0 in the Putnam County League and Fort Jennings falls to to 0-2 and 0-7.

Miller City 51, Vanlue 29

MILLER CITY — Miller City’s Natalie Koenig scored 18 points and Abi Lammers added 13 points. For Vanlue, Emma Biller scored 17 points.

Miller City improves to 5-1. Vanlue falls to 3-5.

Arcadia Invitational

ARCADIA — Columbus Grove finished in third place at the Arcadia Invitational Saturday.

The Bulldogs scored 204 points. Taking first was Plymouth with 330 points followed by Wayne Trace in second with 236 points.

Individually, Ezra Jones took first place in the 182 lbs. division with Dakota Sargent taking first at 220 lbs. and Jeff Meyer snaring top honors at 285 lbs. Columbus Groves’ Landen Schroeder was third at 135 lbs. and Joe Kohli was third at 145 lbs.

ST. MARYS — St. Marys’ Cameron Now bowled a 402. Other Rider scores were Jonny Perez-Shinabery (349), Jr. Hurley (314), Derek Fisher (292), Caleb Monbeck (143). For Ottawa-Glandorf, Sean Kelly bowled a 344. Other Titan scores were Jarrett John (338), Brandt Utrup (329) and Mitch Kaufman (295).

ST. MARYS — St. Marys’ Jaden Gibson bowled a 386. Other Rider scores were Debbie Simsuer (362) and Tricia Yahl (306). For Ottawa-Glandorf, Emily Krukowski rolled a 333. Other Titan scores were Camryn Foppe (280), Hannah Hoehne (100), Natalie Duling (115), Bri Siebeneck (287), Hannah Brinkman (135) and Morgan Miller (101).

Men’s

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s basketball team was held to 30.4% shooting by Capital as it fell 76-50 on Saturday at the ONU Sports Center.

ONU (2-5 overall, 0-3 OAC) was led by 14 points from sophomore Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) while Cameron Caldwell scored 17 points to lead the Crusaders (5-4 overall, 2-1 OAC).

Senior Austin Allemeier (Elida) scored 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range and senior Caleb Bryan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) scored five points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

CU opened on a 14-4 run before taking a 35-23 lead into halftime.

Three-pointers by Allemeier and Waugh drew ONU to within 40-31 and 42-34, respectively.

Freshman Landen Long (Mason) converted back-to-back lay-ups to bring the Polar Bears within six, 47-41 with 11:50 to play.

From there, Capital netted 20 consecutive points to put the game out of reach with 5:23 remaining.

Women’s

Capital stops ONU

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Northern women’s basketball team dropped its first game of the season Saturday. The Polar Bears lost at Capital 53-38, falling to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. The Crusaders improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Senior Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) boasted a career-high 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting to pace Northern. Her previous career high was 18 points. Junior teammate Emily Brock (Akron/Revere) and freshman Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) chipped in six points apiece.

ONU hit 26.3 percent (15 of 57) of its field-goal attempts and 14.3 percent (3 of 21) of its 3-point shots. Capital was 38.2 percent (21 of 55) from the floor and 42.9 percent (6 of 14) of its attempts from 3-point land.

Emma Burns matched Mescher’s 21 points to pace the Crusaders.

ONU jumped out to a 12-6 advantage prior to holding a 12-11 edge at the end of the first quarter. Capital outscored the Polar Bears 17-10 in the second 10 minutes to take a 28-22 lead into halftime. Capital extended its cushion to 41-28 ahead of the fourth period.

Bluffton downs Rose-Hulman

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University women’s basketball team played host to conference foe Rose-Hulman on Saturday. The only time the Engineers led was after they scored the first basket of the game. It was all Beavers the rest of the way, culminating in a 60-51 victory. Bluffton moved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference, while RHIT fell to 1-6 and 0-2 in the HCAC.

The Beaver offense jumped out to a quick start when sophomore Brianna Gillig (New Riegel) converted her first hoop and harm to make the score 10-6 with 2:54 left in the first quarter. Bluffton added to the lead when junior Abbie Parkins (Bluffton) dropped a deuce to make it 17-8 at the end of one.

The home team struck first in period two thanks to an Emma Saltzman (Arcadia) layup that made the score 19-8. Bluffton still led by 10 when freshman Sammy Shardo (Findlay/Liberty Benton) nailed a 3-point shot, making the score 29-19 with 3:22 left in the half. The visitors climbed back within five, making it a 31-26 game at the break.

Bluffton saw its lead fritter away when Rose Hulman’s Rose Burnham hit a layup to tie it at 31 with 7:36 to go in the third period. The home team would not cave in and went back up 10 when senior Tj Mills (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne) split a pair of free throws to make it 45-35 in favor of the Beavers. Rose followed suit at the end of the quarter to make it 45-36 heading to the final stanza.

Bluffton dialed up the pressure in the fourth period, opening up its largest lead of the afternoon when Nora Hemminger (McComb) completed an old-fashioned three-point play which made it 60-42. The Engineers fought till the end, but Bluffton was too much as the Beavers secured a 60-51 victory.

Gillig led three Beavers in double figures with a game-high 15 points. The sophomore was 5-of-8 from the field with three conventional three-point plays as the Engineers had no answer for her in the first half. She also pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Hemminger sparked the offense off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Mills chipped in with 10 points, five steals and five assists.
