LIMA — Racing fans are getting geared up for what appears to be a fast night of racing for the Busch Clash/Meet the Drivers with Ken Schrader — Presented by: Post Printing on Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park. The pit gates open at 4:30 and racing starts at 7:30.
The K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprints, K&N Filter Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks will all be competing.
One of the Sprint drivers competing is Leipsic native Butch Schroeder.
The two time National Racing Alliance Championship winner has also won the Brad Doty Classic and still holds the 410 track record at Attica Raceway.
“I just really love sprint car racing,” Schroeder said. “Most of the fans who see it fall in love right away. These cars are overgrown fire-breathing dragons. They have a lot of horsepower.”
Schroeder also likes the competitive field and the close-knit community that sprint car racing consists of.
“Ron Hammons (with the National Racing Alliance) has done a great job of treating everybody fair, which means a lot,” Schroeder said. “(The National Racing Alliance’s) Craig Rutan also does a great job. It’s a pleasure to go race with them. It’s like a small family. We have some really good young guys coming up and we still have some of us older veterans competing at a high level. There are 10 or more people who can win on any given night.”
Schroeder is looking forward to competing at Limaland for numerous reasons.
“Well for one it is close for me,” Schroeder said. “They also do a great job of getting you in and out in a relatively quick amount of time. You go do a show then you’re on your way home, which I like. The facility is great. They keep the track pretty fast. At times it can be crazy fast. The facility is great and the people treat you well.”
So far this season, Schroeder has only gotten to compete in three races. He finished third at a race at Eldora Speedway, ninth at a race at Limaland and then did not make the feature last week at Fremont Speedway.
“I’m looking forward to racing at Limaland this week to rebound off of last week,” Schroeder said. “I would like to win some races this year. The schedule is kind of limited, so I have to make the most of the races that I compete in.”
Just like most of the competitive drivers out there, Schroeder gives a lot of credit to his sponsors.
“I would really like to thank Dale’s Concrete, Ohio Logistics, K&L Ready Mix, Banshee Graphics, George’s Garage & LP Gas and Kistler Engines,” Schroeder said. “They help make everything run smooth.”

Waynesfield Raceway
WAYNESFIELD — Following two back to back weekends with extra money on the line, Waynesfield Raceway Park returns back to action Saturday with four classes of racing on tap.
After taking a week off, the Quest Federal Credit Union Non Wing Sprints return as well as the Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints and the Indian Lake Outfitters Compact division. Additionally, the Block Insurance Agency Tough Trucks will return to the 1/3rd mile, with a special memorial race planned for this class.
With the help of multiple area businesses and organizers, the Tough Trucks will run the Jeff Augustine Memorial Truck Race on Saturday. Augustine, who passed away during the winter, was a 10-year sponsor of the 37j truck of Roy Miller. Miller wanted to honor his longtime friend and supporter. While he never made it to Waynesfield to watch a race with farming season being the same as racing, Augustine never failed to call Miller or stop over following a night of racing. Adult general admission Saturday is $12. Those ages 11-15 will be admitted for $6, with everyone under the age of 10 getting in free. Pit access is available for $25.
