Wapak girls finish fourth at state in bowling

COLUMBUS — Wapakoneta dropped a five-game match in the Division I girls state bowling semifinals to fall one match short of the podium and Wapakoneta’s Madison Doseck and Lima Senior’s Morgan Twining each fell one pin short of individual honorable mention honors with sets of 596.

The two medal hopefuls took similar routes to their near honors. Twining started with games of 210 and 213 before running into issues in game three and Wapak exploded out of the gate behind Katie Manger with a 1,015 start. Manger rolled a 256 in game one, closing with the final eight strikes.

Where Twining avoided bowling issues until the final game, Wapak dropped early to 902 and an uncharacteristic 824 in game 3. Strangely Doseck ironically rolled her best game of the day in that third game, a 221.

Wapak was able to advance to the round of eight off the strength of its first two games, earning the seventh seed and a . pairing against No. 2 seed Troy, led by Jenna Stone, who was first team all tournament. Stone’s teammate Cassidy McMullen earned second team honors this year.

Troy put Wapak on the ropes early with a 167-153 tally.

Wapak then won games two (179-156) and three (199-148) before falling in game four (191-140).

In game five, with Doseck, a freshman, put in the anchor slot in the order and Manger, a senior, in the four spot, the Redskins advanced with a 182-157 triumph.

Next came third-seeded Kettering Fairmont. The Redskins fell 146-195, 235-155, 178-148, 143-166 and 167-162.

Fairmont then fell to Gahanna Lincoln (221-157, 218-175, 194-191) in the finale. Based on seedings, Wapak finished fourth as a team. The 596 series of Doseck and Twining, a junior, put them tied for 16th. Manger’s 581 put her in a tie for 24th and senior teammate Carlee Hosterman was 40th with a 556.
