Minster makes regional finals in girls basketball

VANDALIA — Minster advanced to the Division IV regional finals in girls basketball with a 41-27 Thursday night victory against Tri-Village at Butler High School.

The Wildcats held a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter that grew to 26-14 by halftime.

Eight players for Minster (23-3) got in the scoring column with Ivy Wolf leading the way with eight. Teammate Janae Hoying scored seven. Tri-Village finished its season 21-6.

The Wildcats will play Fort Loramie (22-5), a 32-27 winner against Covington, for the regional championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Butler High School.

Baseball

Bluffton 9, Hiram 5

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Ryan Golden had two doubles and four RBI, Jacob Latkofsky had a single, a triple and an RBI and Lenny Winiarski had a hit and two RBI for Bluffton (7-2).

Aurora 5, Ohio Northern 3

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Ohio Northern came up short against Aurora (Ill.) in the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida.

The Polar Bears fell to 4-2 overall, while the Spartans moved to 5-3.

Hayden Shenefield and Caleb Thomas each had a single, double and RBI and Luke Klinehoffer had a pair of singles and an RBI to lead Northern offensively.

Softball

ONU goes 1-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Ohio Northern defeated Illinois College 3-2, before suffering its first loss of the season 6-3 to Westminster (Pa.) during the Sunkissed Games.

The Polar Bears moved to 7-1 on the season, while the Lady Blues fall to 3-4 and the Titans improve to 3-5.

Bath graduate Jenna Hollar paced the Polar Bears offensively with a combined five hits, five runs scored and two stolen bases in the two contests.

Bluffton drops two

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — After taking a day off, Bluffton took to the diamond to face off against The WPI Engineers and St. Joseph’s Monks. In game one, Bluffton was outscored 8-3 in the final two innings as WPI was able to complete the comeback with a 13-12 win. Following the loss, Bluffton’s offense went stagnant in game two as the Beavers fell 3-2 to St. Joseph’s. The Beavers moved to 2-6 on the season.

ONU 9, Catholic 0

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Ohio Northern won its second consecutive match at Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort.

The Polar Bears improved to 6-2 on the season, while the Cardinals dropped to 3-5.

Women’s tennis

Coe 5, ONU 4

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Ohio Northern wrapped up its spring break trip, falling to 8-3 overall, while the Kohawks improved to 12-8.
