Division III girls regionals set

OTTAWA -The Ottawa-Glandorf girls basketball team will be facing Western Reserve (22-3) at Lexington High School at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

In the other Division III brackets, Versailles defeated Williamsburg 70-27 to advance to the regional final where they will face Waynesville at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

ONU tracksters honored

ADA — For the second time in their respective careers, seniors Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) and Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) swept the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year awards.

The duo both earned the honor during the 2016 indoor season and are the only pair of Great Lakes Region teammates to earn the honor in the same season since it began in 2006. They are also the only pair of teammates to earn the honor on two occasions during the same season.

Molinaro is now a 2-time recipient of the honor after being named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Year in 2016.

The senior enters this weekend’s 2018 NCAA Indoor Div. III Championships owning the fastest time in the 800-meter run (1:50.23), a mark which ranks ninth-best in Div. III history.

Richards is now a 3-time recipient of the award, claiming the honor for the third consecutive season.

Bluffton baseball sweeps

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Bluffton University baseball team hit the diamond to face off against the Rivier Raiders on Wednesday, March 7. The Beavers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-0 victory in game one and a thrilling 15-9 win in the second game of the day. The pair of wins moves them to 6-2 on the season.

Leading the charge was Colin Gregory who was a perfect 3-for-3, scoring twice and knocking in an RBI. Ryan Golden smoked his second home run of the season and Alex Lemanski notched a pair of hits to go along with a pair of runs for the Beavers.

Jack Bondy (Avon) was dominant in his first start of the season on the mound. Despite allowing five walks, Bondy gave up no runs on four hits and he struck out a pair on the way to his first win.

Following a 3-for-3 outing in the first game, Colin Gregory mirrored his performance, going 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring three times in game two. Lenny Winiarski chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBI. Scoring three times and knocking home a pair of runs for the Beavers, Ryan Golden drew a pair of free passes as well.

Picking up the win and moving to 2-1 on the year was junior Dante D’andrea(Westerville/North) who fanned three batters and allowed just one run on four hits in his 5.0 innings
