Lima area college roundup: Rowe scores 31 in Bluffton women’s basketball victory

ANDERSON, Ind. — It was a tale of two halves as the Bluffton University women’s basketball team headed to Indiana to face off against Anderson University in its last road contest of the 2017-18 regular season. Despite a slow start for the Beavers, Allen East graduate Kaycee Rowe led a third quarter surge with a career-high 31 points that helped the visitors to a 75-54 win against the winless Ravens, improving to 17-6 on the season (12-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Rowe scored seven straight points to give Bluffton a 47-36 lead with 3:35 in the third quarter. With 2:30 left, a Rowe layup allowed the Beavers to extend their lead to 18.

TJ Mills added nine points for the Beavers while Macey Sheerer snagged a team-high eight rebounds in the victory.

Ohio Northern 66

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — John Carroll used a 13-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to overcome a seven-point deficit and upset No. 15-Ohio Northern at the DeCarlo Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 20-3 overall and stay on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-17 (4-12).

Amy Bullimore had 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Marion Local grad Emily Mescher scored 16 and grabbed six rebounds to lead ONU.

Indiana Tech 91, UNOH 55

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Upper Scioto Valley graduate Emily Patton had 11 points and Cori Dickson and Bath grad Danielle VanDyne each scored nine for the University of Northwestern Ohio (7-20, 3-15 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference).

Anderson 86, Bluffton 81

ANDERSTON, Ind. — Four from Bluffton (10-13, 7-9 HCAC) scored in double-figures with Lincolnview alum Justis Dowdy bucketing a career-high tying 17 while Bath grad Andrew Renner added 15n. Kevin Christie contributed 13 points and eight assists. Max Glass notched a career high with 11 points to go along with five rebounds.

Indiana Tech 87, UNOH 60

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Willis Mackey Jr. had 17 points and Oslbey Mercer scored 11 for UNOH (12-16, 5-13 WHAC).

Richards sets mark

ALLENDALE, Mich. — A week after posting the third fastest time in the 800-meter run in Division III history, Ohio Northern’s Emily Richards posted another historical feat as she broke the all-time Div. III record in the event at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday evening.

Richards broke the previous record set in 2013 by Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola by nearly half a second. The senior also broke her own school record for the second consecutive week after finishing in a record 2:05.28.
