College basketball roundup: Burger, Bruns lead Ohio Northern men to victory

NEW CONCORD — Nate Burger and Marion Local graduate Ryan Bruns each posted double-doubles as the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team rallied from a 17-point first half deficit to claim an 82-69 Saturday afternoon victory against Muskingum.

The Polar Bears improved to 15-6 overall and remain in the hunt in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 10-4, while the Muskies dropped to 8-13 (6-8 OAC).

Bruns led the way in the contest as he posted his ninth straight game with at least 20 points, while scoring a team-best 26 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.

Burger added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Joey DiOrio added 14 points for Northern.

Rose-Hulman 83, Bluffton 75 (OT)

BLUFFTON — Kevin Christie had 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, Bath grad Andrew Renner had 13 points, fur assists and three steals and Aaron Rich had eight rebounds for the host Beavers (9-12, 6-8 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Cornerstone 87, UNOH 70

LIMA — Xander Smart had 22 points and Daniel Page scored 10 for the University of Northwestern Ohio (12-14, 5-11 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Athletics).

Women’s basketball

Rose-Hulman 50, Bluffton 44

BLUFFTON — The host Beavers faced off against Rose-Hulman in a pivotal HCAC matchup. Despite a slow start, the Beavers were able to fight back and stay even with the Engineers for much of the contest. In the end, Rose-Hulman was too much for Bluffton as the Fightin’ Engineers wrapped up a season sweep of the Beavers,. Bluffton stands 15-6 (10-4 HCAC) on the season, while RHIT improved to 18-3 and 14-0 in the conference.

Bluffton’s Macey Sheerer who notched her 17th career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Abigail O’Donnell put up a team-high 12 points. Allen East alum Kaycee Rowe added 10 points and eight rebounds and TJ Mills contributed 10 points.

Cornerstone 69, UNOH 52

LIMA — Upper Scioto Valley grad Emily Patton had 21 points and Lauren Goodrum scored 10 for the host Racers (7-18, 3-13 WHAC).
