Dray top medalist at W-G Invitational

Perry’s Logan Dray and Botkins’ Nick Fishio shared top medalist honors after both shot a 71 at the Waynesfield-Goshen boy’s golf invitational Monday.

Lehman Catholic took top team honors with a 327, beating Ft. Loramie by one stroke (328). Rounding out the top three was Jackson Center 341.

Wapakoneta 159, St. Marys 182

Wapakoneta’s Dusty Haggard garnered top medalist honors with a 36 and teammate Tanner Sweede finished with a 39. Drew Zwielbel fired a 40 and Logan Miller posted a 44 with Dylan Timmerman shooting a 47. For St. Marys Jill Schmitmeyer had the Rougherider’s low score with a 39. Auston Boley and Clay Quellhorst both posted 49’s and Reese Sweigart notched a 45.

“This was a good start to our regular season and league season. Right now we are seeing very good team balance. I’m pleased with that.” Wapakoneta head coach Mike Brown said.

Minster 169, Coldwater 179

Minster’s Joseph Magoto shot a 40 to capture top medalist honors and teammate Grant Koenig was second with a 41. For Coldwater Andrew Fisher shot a 41.

Arlington 192, Ada 228

Arlington’s Brayden Bishong and William Bishong both shot identical 44 for low score. Ada’s Alex Morgan led his team with a 52.

Kalida 338, Delphos St. John’s 373

Kalida’s Christian Narkter fired a 79 to claim medalist honors. Teammate Josh Klausing fired an 82 and Josh Recker finished with an 83. For Delphos, Adam Gerker shot an 81.

St. Henry 162, Marion Local 211

St. Henry’s Jack Romer fired a low of 38 to capture top medalist honors and teammate Kyle Naumann notched a 40 and Rylee Deitsch rounded out the top three with a 41. Seth King shot a 43. For Marion Local, Dylan Homan and Collin Everman each shot a 52. Jack Bohman shot a 53 and Garrett Plieman shot a 54.

St. Henry is 1-0 overall and in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Marion Local falls to 0-1 overall and in league play.

Shawnee 162, Celina 240

Celina’s Lance Mawer shot a 38 to capture top medalist honors while Shawnee’s Justin Behnke was one stroke behind with a 39. For Shawnee, Sam Reed scored a 40 and teammate John Barker shot a 41. Drew Bullock shot a 42. Other Celina scores were Tyler Johnson with a 49, followed by Nate Langenkamp with a 53.

Elida 174, Ottawa-Glandorf 184

Elida’s Jared Ramirez fired a 39 to take top medalist honors. Teammate Riley Creps posted a 44 with Jacob Ramirez finishing with a 45. Logan Long shot a 46. For Ottawa-Glandorf, Austi Ratcliff shot a 40 to lead the Titans. Evan Ellerbrock and Alex Ellerbrock both posted a 47 and Zach Stechschulte scored a 50.

Pla-Mor Lanes to host PBA event

COLDWATER – Long-time PBA regional tournament host Pla-Mor Lanes will host its first PBA Tour event when the Xtra Frame Storm Cup Series makes its first visit to Coldwater Aug. 25-27 for the PBA Xtra Frame Kenn-Feld Group Classic.

A field of approximately 100 players, including present and future PBA stars will compete in the final event of the seven-tournament XF Storm Cup Series that will pay $50,000 in bonus prize money at the conclusion of the event.

Leading the Storm Cup points race after five events is reigning PBA Player of the Year EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., who has yet to win an Xtra Frame Storm Cup event this year, but has third, fifth and second-place finishes in the last three of four tournaments.

All of the XF Storm Cup tournaments are covered live, from first ball to last, by PBA’s Xtra Frame live streaming service. PBA created the online Xtra Frame Tour in 2014 to supplement its national television coverage on ESPN and the CBS Sports network and to enable more fans throughout the world to see the world’s greatest bowlers compete for a PBA Tour title in person.

Heading the early list of PBA stars scheduled to compete in addition to Tackett are PBA Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr., Parker Bohn III and Amleto Monacelli, as well as former Player of the Year Sean Rash.

Competition begins on Saturday, Aug. 26 with eight-game qualifying squads at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. EDT, with the top one-third of the field advancing to Sunday’s cashers round. After another four games Sunday at 10 a.m., the top 16 players will advance to the three-game Round of 16. The top eight after 15 games move on to the two-game Round of 8, after which the top four players will advance to the stepladder finals at 3:30 p.m.

A practice session is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday Aug. 25 and two squads of pro-am activity, where grassroots amateur bowlers will bowl with the pros, will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. For tournament pro-am and admission information contact Pla-Mor Lanes at (419) 678-3113.

Annual Crestview-Van Wert football jamboree set

Van Wert— The Van Wert varsity football team will be hosting the Crestview Knights in a jamboree game on Friday at Eggerss Stadium at 7 p.m. The jamboree is approved by the OHSAA and both schools contribute financially to the OHSAA Foundation which provides scholarships to Ohio student-athletes.

Gate admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item and will have their gate admission reduced to $3 for adults and $2 for students. Season passes are not honored for this event. The game does not count as a regular season contest for either school.

ONU tabbed as frontrunners

ADA — The Ohio Northern women’s soccer team has been picked to finish first in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season standings, voted on by the leagues 10 coaches.

Only the top six vote-getters were mentioned in the poll. ONU finished first in the poll with 54 points and nine first place votes, while Capital finished second in the poll with 37 points and Otterbein rounded out the top-3 with 33 points.

Northern claimed the OAC Regular Season title in 2016 before falling in the OAC tournament championship game. The Polar Bears finished 15-4-0 overall in 2016 and 8-1-0 in the OAC standings.

ONU opens the 2017 campaign on Sept. 1 as it travels to Adrian (Mich.) to take on the Bulldogs at 5 p.m. under 14th-year head coach Mark Batman.
