Locos fall to Settlers again

NEWARK — The Lima Locos dropped a 6-5 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League game to Licking County on Wednesday night, the second straight loss to the Settlers.

Lima scored twice in first when Will Kilgore (Georgia State) doubled in Ethan Hurt (Trevecca Nazarene). After reaching third on a putout, Kilgore then scored on a Josh DeBacker (Wichita State) sacrifice fly. Licking County countered with a run in the first and two more in the second. The Locos tied the game in the third and then got the lead back with a run in the fourth. The Settlers then plated runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for a 6-4 advantage. Lima was able to get a run in the ninth but was unable to tie the contest.

Kilgore finished with two doubles and an RBI. Ross Adolph (University of Toledo) had a base hit, a double and an RBI, Jeddediah Fagg (Yavapai College) and Colin Stolly (Lima Central Catholic/Ohio Wesleyan) each had two hits and DeBacker and Josh Wooten (University of Cincinnati) each had a hit and an RBI also for the Locos (27-10)

The Locos, who have clinched the Central Division championship, will play host to Southern Division leader Richmond in a two-game series today and Friday with both games starting at 7:05 p.m. at Simmons Field.

Women’s Match Play

begins this morning

LIMA — The 74th edition of the Lima Area Women’s Match Play tees off today with medal play beginning at 9 a.m. at The Oaks Golf Club.

There will be Championship, Open and Junior Flights. Round 1 matches are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Friday at Hidden Creek Golf Club with second round play scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Colonial Golfers Club.
