The Moulton Gun Club Youth Shooters competed July 14-15 in the Scholastic Clay Target Program Nationals in Marengo and came away with several honors and awards.
In the rookie division, which is fifth grade and younger, M0ulton, which took first place in the Ohio State SCTP championship shoot June 19, placed second in the Rookie Division in the SCTP National 16 yard singles trap championship. The team consisted of five youth, Kole Kuenning, Brayden Hoehn, Jordan Landin, Seth Finke, and Corbyn Suchland. Also, Jordan Landin received first place high gun in the handicap competition overall. For the Rookie Division, handicap is shot from the 19-yard line.
In the Varsity division, which is made up of ninth through 12th graders, some honors were earned as well. Evan Barr made the All Ohio SCTP team. This All Ohio SCTP team is made up of the top five scores in the State of Ohio from each state’s competition. This All Ohio SCTP team competed against state teams from across the country, placing first at Nationals. The All Ohio Team took first with a 985/1000, narrowly defeating Iowa and Pennsylvania.
Also receiving honors in the Varsity division was Rodd Spradlin. Spradlin made the NRA SCTP All-Scholastic Team for the second year. Spradlin also tied for first place in the SCTP National Doubles trap event. Unfortunately for Spradlin, there was no shoot off so Spradlin ended up taking second only to reverse long run.
More than 2,700 participated in the event. A total of 33 states were represented and more than 1.2 million shots were fired in competition events.
The All-Scholastic Team recognizes the top student athletes in the SSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting Program for their achievements in the classroom, on the range and in their communities. Through an application process, 2017 All-Scholastic Team Members have proven academic excellence by posting 3.0 or better grade point averages, shooting excellent scores in recent competition (95 percent in trap or skeet, 85 persent in sporting clays, 88 percent in international trap/skeet or 75 seconds or less for SASP) and by demonstrating outstanding community involvement.

SIDNEY — Joshah Rager had the low round of the day, shooting a 71 in winning the boys 16-18 division of the Lima Junior Golf Association’s Bob Fridley Junior Tournament played Thursday at Shelby Oaks Golf Club.
Jill Schmitmeyer won the girls 16-18 crown with a 74. Ethan Ricketts was the boys 14-15 winner with an 86.
In nine hole events, Adam Ballas was first in the boys 12-13 competition with a 38 and Kayla Watkins was the girls 15 and younger victor with a 47.
