Seniors, open flights to battle for crowns at city tournaments

LIMA — After an abundance of golf played Saturday due to the rain Friday, the Lima City Golf Super Senior, Senior Open, Senior Championship semifinals and Second Flight and First Flight finals are set for today.

In the Super Senior First Flight semifinals, Ted Keysor will face Denny Thompson at Hidden Creek at 7:40 a.m. today. Keysor advanced to the semis after defeating Joe Bailey 1 up. Thompson advanced after beating Jim Odenwiller 4 and 3.

In the bottom half of the Super Senior First Flight semifinals, Tony Hobensack will take on Larry Lewis at Hidden Creek at 7:40 a.m.. Hobensack advanced to the semis after defeating John Gronas 1-up and Lewis defeated Mike McGough 1-up in the third round.

The Super Senior First Flight finals will be at the Shawnee Country Club at 2:37 p.m. today

Steve Creps and Dan Garlock will square off in the Super Senior Second Flight semifinals at Hidden Creek at 7:30 a.m today. Creps defeated Jim Vastano 5 and 4 in the third round.

Willie McGuire and Jeff Cary will battle in the lower half of the Super Senior Second Flight at Hidden Creek at 7:30 a.m. today. McGuire made the semis when he beat Denny Watt 3-up in the third round and Cary downed Larry Sidener in the third round 6 and 4.

The Super Seniors Second Flight finals will be at the Shawnee Country Club at 2:30 p.m. today.

In the Senior Open bracket, Salvatore Marzulla and Ed Nolte will take each other in the semifinals at Hidden Creek at 7:50 a.m. today. Marzulli defeated Dave Schmmoeller 5 and 4 in the third round and Nolte upended Tom Kottenbrook 1-up in the third round.

In the bottom half of the bracket, David Lowery and Bill Haidle will face off at Hidden Creek at 7:50 a.m. today. Lowery beat Mike Szymanski 1-up and Haidle bested Norm Lowery 1 up. Haidle defeated Greg Wheeler in round two and Lowery received a bye.

The Senior Open Flight finals will be at the Shawnee Country at 2:44 p.m. today.

In the First Flight Open bracket, Chris Inskeep will face off with Thomas Nolte at Shawnee Country Club at 3:05 p.m. today in the finals. Inskeep opened play Saturday with a 3 and 2 win over Chris Lauck 5 and 4 and then followed it up with a win over Tim Grigsby 6 and 5. Nolte defeated James Schipper 3 and 2 and then advanced to the finals by beating Ethan O’Connor 1-up.

The First Flight finals will be at the Shawnee Country Club at 3:05 p.m. today.

In the Second Flight Open bracket Kirk Slusher will face Steve Mefferd in the finals at Shawnee Country Club at 2:58 today. Slusher advanced to the finals after beating Ryan Conaway 6 and 5 and then downed Mitch Hastings 4 and 2. Mefferd moved through the bracket by opening play with a 2-up win over Sean Anderson and then defeated Todd Coil 1-up to make it the finals.

The Second Flight finals will be at the Shawnee Country Club at 2:58 p.m. today.
