UNOH to field five cars at Volusia, Daytona

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio’s High Performance Motorsports program will field five cars at the 46th DIRTCar Nationals on Feb. 14-25 at Volusia Speedway Park, De Leon Springs, Florida.

Four modified cars, built by UNOH students, will be entered in the event and crewed by 32 UNOH Motorsports Team students. The cars will be driven by UNOH students Jared Spaulding, Paul “Will” Norris, Blake Spaulding, and Shayne Meadows.

The fifth car wasn’t built by UNOH students but will sport UNOH colors. NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, who also competes in short-track dirt races and mentors UNOH students, will be in the driver’s seat, according to UNOH.

An additional 29 UNOH High Performance Motorsports students will work as interns with Automobile Racing Club of America stock car teams for the ARCA Lucas Oil 200 race on Feb. 18 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida.

“Our students build, crew, and drive these cars and the experience they gain at Volusia is invaluable to their careers,” said UNOH President Dr. Jeffrey A. Jarvis in a statement. “Having a presence in Daytona and Volusia will give these interested students an opportunity to see what their future could hold for them.”
