ATHLETICS

Bluffton Family Recreation offers three low-impact exercise classes at the Maple Crest pool. The following classes will be: Level 1 for strength, ROM and cardio, held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Level 2 for higher level cardio, held from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Aqua Zumba, held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays. Kelly Honse and Kealy Goodale are the instructors. Fees are $6 per class or $4 per class with a BFR membership. Maple Crest residents may take the classes at no charge. ARCHERY

Allen County Archers

The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.. For details, call Neil Wallace at 567-825-7109.

Columbus Grove

The Columbus Grove Archers will have the indoor traditional shoots at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesdays all winter.

BANQUET

Dupont

Steve Scott will be the guest speaker at the annual sportsmen’s banquet at the Dupont Church of the Brethren in Dupont Ohio at 6 p.m. Jan. 14. Scott is the founder and director of On Target Outfitters, a youth mentoring ministry that uses hunting, fishing, archery and riflery as a way to reach young people. Scott is an avid bow hunter and has had the opportunity to hunt whitetail, black bear, antelope and mule deer. Steve has recorded many of these hunting stories in his book, “Faith Afield” where he reflects on the lessons he has learned while spending time in God’s great outdoors.

BASEBALL

Lima

The University of Northwestern Ohio will be playing host to a camp in January open to all high school students in grades nine through 12.

The High School Skills and Prospect Camp will be held Jan. 8. The cost for the camp and showcase is $100, and $75 for the showcase only. The skills camp will include one-on-one instruction and Q&A session with the UNOH Coaching Staff. The prospect camp will include a pro-style workout with documented running times, defensive evaluation, offensive evaluation and pitching evaluation. Each camper will receive a written evaluation by a UNOH coach. All evaluations will be posted on the UNOH athletics website two weeks after the camp.

BASKETBALL

The 14th Annual Bath Girls 5-6 grade basketball tournament will be held March 11-12. Entry fee is $125 per team with Saturday pool play and single elimination tournament Sunday. the event will only take 24 teams per grade. The Lima City Schools will host a Sunday afternoon Futsal League for players in grades 3-6 beginning in January. Team fees are $300. Individual fees are $30 for Lima City School students and $40 for all others. No club teams are allowed. School based teams are welcomed. PICKLEBALL

Lima

Pickleball is played at Bradfield Center from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All skill levels are welcome.

The Lima YMCA is holding open pickleball play from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday (appointment only). Free for YMCA members and $3 per visit for nonmembers or $20 per month for non members (unlimited play). Individuals can register online at limaymca.net.

Personal Protection Workshop

The Lima YMCA will be conducting a professional protection workshop from 9 a.m. to noon March 18. Lima YMCA instructor Mark Hunter, who has 29 years of experience, will be overseeing the lcasses. The fee is $10 for YMCA members and $30 for non members. Individuals will get training on common grabs and holds, how to handle violent physical attacks and nuisance date situation.

RUNS/WALK

Lima

The 20th annual 10 mile Chili fun run will be held Jan. 1 at the Riggs, 1200 N. Wapak Road in Lima. There is an optional six mile loop. For more information contact [email protected] or 419-339-9810.

SHOOTING

Lima Sabres

TENNIS

The Lima Area Tennis Association will be holding a free middle school tennis program at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. beginning Jan. 8 and running through March 26. Students ages 12-14 will receive instruction from teaching pro Jeff Brown. Tennis shoes are required but if an individual does not have a racket, one will be provided. The Lima Area Tennis Association and the University of Northwestern Ohio Winter Classic doubles tennis tournament will be held at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center at 8 a.m. Jan. 14. The event will raise money to support the new Westwood Middle school tennis clinic and the LATA summer tennis camp. Those who register can secure a UNOH racer for the tournament. They are currently accepting registrations and the first eight players for each draw who want to play with a UNOH player. The registration fee is $40 to secure a UNOH Racer. It is $25 for all other individual entries.

TRACK & FIELD

Findlay

The Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches’ Northwest Ohio District Indoor Track & Field Invitational will be held Jan. 20 at the Malcolm Athletic Center located inside the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex at The University of Findlay. VOLLEYBALL

Applications are being taken for the YMCA Young Ladies Volleyball League that begins Jan. 12. Games will be played from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. The league features girls volleyball players in fifth, sixth and seventh grade. The cost is $25 for members and $50 for non members. The team cost is $200 (8 players maximum).

Lima

Applications are being taken for the YMCA Ladies Volleyball League for players 16 years to adults. The league begins Jan. 31 and practice nights are Jan. 17 and Jan. 24. The cost is $200 per team.
