MILWAUKEE — Chris Carter hit an early home run and the Milwaukee Brewers scored in every inning they batted to beat the Atlanta Braves 11-3 Thursday.
The Brewers scored in each inning for the first time in franchise history. It was just the eighth time since 1961 a team scored in every inning it hit during a nine-inning game, the Elias Sports Bureau said.
Carter hit a two-run homer in the first. Scooter Gennett and Hernan Perez later hit solo homers to help Milwaukee build a 6-0 lead.
After scoring eight runs in the first three games of the series, the Brewers broke loose and wound up with 14 hits.
Matt Garza (4-4) won his third straight start, allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings.
Making his second start of the season, Roberto Hernandez (1-1) gave up five runs and seven hits in four innings.
Erick Aybar homered and Nick Markakis had an RBI single in the Atlanta sixth. Aybar also doubled and singled.
The Brewers broke open the game in the bottom half on a three-run double by Manny Pina.
The Brewers took a 3-0 lead in the second when they tried a double steal. Pina was tagged out between second and first, but Keon Broxton scampered home.
Gennett added a two-out, RBI single in the fifth inning off Brandon Cunniff.
