“We are really excited about the numbers this season, especially the number of national players that we will have in our field!”
Rick Hartings is clearly excited for year nine of the Lefeld Implement PBA Central Classic at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater. He is so excited in fact that he may have undersold his statement on the national players that will be competing.
For those of us that love to be in the presence of the best that this or any sport have to offer let us simply review the list of true bowling stars that will be in attendance for the event. At the risk of hyperbole let me say … WOW where do we start!?!
Please forgive me for anybody that I may miss but looking at the list as of 4 p.m.Wednesday, the following are among the 87 bowlers set to compete. The cream starts right at the beginning with defending champion and fan favorite Parker Bohn III.
He will be joined by Chris Loschetter, Rhino Page and Ronnie Russell who may well have homes in the Mercer – Auglaize County area for all the love that they have been shown. Same can be said for E.J. Tackett, Brian Kretzer, Tony Johnson and Brian Nicodemus.
These four will be challenged by the likes of Mitch Beasley, Patrick Allen, Dick Allen, Carleton C-Bo Chambers, Tom Smallwood, Chris Via, Eugene McCune, Eddie Graham, Eric Tackett, Patrick Dombrowski, Brian LeClair, Anthony LeCaze and JR Raymond.
When you begin to sprinkle in Earron Vollmar, who rolled the most recent 900 perfect series and local young guns such as Anthony Kennard, Tyler James, Justin Franzer, Michael Davidson, Kyle Troup and Garrett Stout, it is easy to see that this tournament could be a fan’s delight.
There will be three qualifying rounds at 8 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday with the stars and locals spread throughout. Fans may never get a chance to get any closer and interact with equally ranked stars from other sports.
The Eliminator format will be used beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday for the top 32 qualifiers with the step ladder planned for 4 p.m.
Those attending will not be disappointed!!
Also just a real quick note for high school students, parents or bowling coaches interested in getting a good leg up on the high school season, maybe to gain some on the Coldwater and Wapakoneta “advantage,” call Chris Sanford (419-222-1876) at 20th Century Lanes and get hooked up with her upcoming high school league. Maybe you will become the next phenom in the area like PBA Regional winner Anthony Kennard.
