Allen County Archers

The Allen County Archers, at the corner of state Route 117 and Defiance Trail, have a pair of monthly shoots planned. A traditional shoot is held the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. An open shoot is the first Saturday and Sunday of every month from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For details, call Neil Wallace at 567-825-7109.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

Payne

The Payne Ball Association will be playing host to two all-star tournaments the weekend of July 8-10 at the Payne Community Park.

A boys 8 & under coach-pitch baseball tournament will be played with teams guaranteed three games in the tournament.

Also, a girls 8 & under coach-pitch softball tournament will take place on those three days as well with all teams guaranteed to play three games.

BASEBALL

Bluffton

The Bluffton University baseball team will host a Youth Skills Camp from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 18 and July 19. The camp is open to youth ages 9-14. Cost is $78. Registration forms can be found at bluffton.edu/athletics/baseball. Participants will be coached by Bluffton University players and coaches. A low player-to-coach ratio will help youth develop skills suited for his/her age and skill level. Learning will be emphasized through drills designed to improve technique through a fun, competitive atmosphere. Players will need to bring a sack lunch, water bottle and all baseball equipment (helmet, glove, bat, catcher’s equipment, etc.)

Locos Express tryouts for the 13U – 18U teams for the 2017 season will be held Aug. 7 at Simmons Field (home of the Lima Locos). Times to TBD. The Express select teams will be competing in tournaments after the end each school’s 2017 spring baseball year. Bluffton

A Jamar Butler Basketball Camp takes place in July at Bluffton Family Recreation.The camp is July 16, at Bluffton Family Recreation. Grades 1-4 sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon. Grades 5-8 sessions are from 1-4 p.m. Butler is a former Lima Shawnee and Ohio State University basketball player. Cost for the camp is $50 and registration includes a t-shirt. The 32nd annual Mayes Community Temple Outdoor Hoops Classic will be held July 15-17 at Martin Luther King Park, 205 Cass Avenue. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with an exhibition game and a small conncert rendered by community talent. On Saturday at 10 a.m. the tournament will begin with teams from all over central Ohio vyng for the coveted classic tourney title. The classic will resume at 10 a.m. Sunday with the championship game at 6:30 p.m. The entry deadline and tourney draw accepting the first 20 teams will be July 13 at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Park White Hall Shelter House. The Lima Express camp will be held July 25-28 at Lima Central Catholic. Sessions will be 9 a.m. to noon (third through fifth grade), 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (sixth through eighth grade). Cost is $100. The second annual Ride to Remember bicycle ride is in Bluffton on July 16. The start is 8 a.m. Route options include 2, 10, 36, 64 and 100 miles. Registration through June 30 is $20 for individuals, $15 for a second family member and $5 for each additional family member. Costs are $5 more after June 30. Bath Parents Sports Club is accepting registrations for the season for boys kindergarten through second grade and third grade through fourth grade. Sign-ups will be available through the elementary the first week of school or Facebook.

The second annual Legends of Northwest Ohio will be conducting a free football camp July 16 for area youth age 8-13. . Elida alumni and former NFL player Kyle Miller will be joined by NFL players Zac Dysert of the Miami Dolphins and Jarrod Pughsley of the Kansas City Chiefs to teach fundamentals, coach, encourage and inspire these young athletes. Other high school and college players and local state championship coaches will be coaching at the football camp, as well. The camp will be held at Elida’s Football Stadium. The Midwest Buckeye Football Officials Association is offering classes to train and certify new high school football officials. Students will receive all rulebooks and officials’ manuals and have their dues paid to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Students must pass the OHSAA official’s test as part of the class. High school students 14 and older interested in officiating grade school football games may also enroll. Classes will meet from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning July 13, and ending Sept. 7. Classes will be conducted in Celina. Successful candidates will become certified OHSAA class II officials. There is a fee of $125 for the class. SHAWNEE

The Western Ohio Football Officials Association will be holding classes for prospective individuals who desire to become a licensed OHSAA football official at 6 p.m. July 11 at Shawnee High School. Cost of the classes are $135.00. Each student must complete 21 hours of class time, 4 hours field time, complete a concussion awareness training course and pass a mechanics and rules test. The 73rd annual Lima Area Women’s Match Play Tournament is July 21-24. Starting times are 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with matches played at Lost Creek Golf Club, Hidden Creek Golf Club, Delphos Golf Club and Shawnee Country Club. USGA handicaps not needed to participate, and organizers will try to fulfill pairing requests for the qualifying round. After qualifying, the tournament heads to match play this year. Canal Days 5K

The Canal Days 5K is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 18, in Delphos. It will be part of the new Delphos Running Series for 2016, which rewards runners with special awards medals, sponsored by Peak Community Fitness. Steel Challenge Pistol Shoot is the third Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. through September. Junior Handgun Matches are the third Sunday monthly at 2 p.m. through September. High Power Rifle Matches are the third Sunday monthly at 8:30 a.m. through September. The Tuesday Trap, 5 Stand and Trap Practice is 6 p.m. weekly through August. SOFTBALL

Bluffton

The Bluffton University softball team will host day camps for advanced and youth players.

An advanced day camp will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18-19. During the camp, for students entering grades 7-12, participants will have the opportunity to advance their skills in fielding, hitting, base running and more under the guidance of Bluffton University coaches and players. The cost is $75.

A youth day camp will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 20. This camp is for students entering grades 1-6 in the fall. This camp will teach softball fundamentals including proper throwing, fielding and hitting mechanics. Bluffton coaches and players will also lead this camp. The cost is $45.

Grand Lake

The Grand Lake Fall League is taking registrations. The Fastpitch Softball league will be divided up into three divisions this year: ninth – 12th grade, sixth – eighth grade, and third – fifth grade. The league will play double headers Sundays for five weeks; there are no practices to avoid any conflicts with fall sports. TENNIS

Lima

Applications are being taken for the 2016 Lima Area Tennis Association (LATA) Championship City singles, doubles and mixed tournaments to be held at the University of Northwestern Ohio Tennis Courts from July 8-22.

The singles competition will be held from July 8-15 with the doubles tournaments held July 15-17. The mixed doubles competition will be held July 22-24. To be eligible players must be entering the eighth grade in the fall of 2016 or a United States Tennis Association junior ranked player.

The entry fee is $30 per person per tournament for non members, $20 for per person per tournament for LATA members and $15 per person per tournament for high school age students. The deadline for entry fees is 5 p.m. July 4 for singles, 5 p.m. July 11 for doubles and 5 p.m. July 18 for mixed competition.
