All-Star Sprints Invade Limaland

LIMA — Racing fans should be pumped for another great night of racing. The All-Star Sprints and K&N Filter Modifieds will be competing tonight in the Ohio Logistics 34th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek at Limaland Motorsports Park. The pit gate opens at 4:30 and racing begins at 7:30.

The All-Star Sprints will be on hand. The All-Stars have been racing since last Friday and will end the week at Eldora on Saturday.

Local product Max Stambaugh, who is in his fifth year competing at Limaland, hopes to give the All-Stars a run for their money.

“It’s a big week for Limaland,” Stambaugh said. “These guys do it for a living. I just do it as a part-time thing for fun.”

The 20-year-old Stambaugh gets a lot of family support at the track each week.

“My crew is a big family thing,” Stambaugh said. “My brother-in-law Derrik Long and his dad, Jody Long, both work with me. Jody is my crew chief. David Diller also helps in the pit crew. They come over to the shop and put a lot of hours in. I trust them. They get everything ready for me.”

Stambaugh is currently in first place in the K&N Ready Mix NRA Sprints points standings with 948 points. He is just ahead of last year’s points winner Jared Horstman (944) and Wapakoneta native Dustin Dobie (914).

“Actually so far we’ve been struggling,” Stambaugh said. “We had a new car and then went back to where we started with the old one. To win championships, you have to be consistent.”

The Elida graduate has come a long way since his first days competing at Limaland at the age of 15.

“We got together and started winning some races last year,” Stambaugh said. “We got a big win at the King of the Quarter Mile. I’m just trying to get better every single year.”

Even though he is currently in first place, Stambaugh is still looking for his first win of the season. Once he gets that win, he hopes to still be in the driver’s seat in the points standings.

“Our goal at the beginning of the year was to win the points championship and it still is the goal,” Stambaugh said. “We definitely want to get some wins. Horstman is going to be tough. He’s won some and has had some second place finishes. If we can figure out how to beat him, I think we’ll have a shot.”

According to Limaland.com, tickets for tonight are $22 for adults and $11 for those ages 11-15. There is no admission fee for children 10 and younger. Pit passes are $28.

Waynesfield Raceway

WAYNESFIELD — All five weekly divisions return this Saturday night to Waynesfield Raceway Park. The Satellite Connections Non Wing Sprint Cars, Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprints, Quest Federal Credit Union UMP Modifieds, Block Insurance Tough Trucks and the Indian Lake Outfitter Compacts get back on the points chase as the mid-season mark nears. Saturday’s program will also usher in the first King of the Hill challenge of the 2016 racing season. Instead of the weekly inversion draw for the Block Insurance Tough Trucks, the front four rows will be determined in a head-to-head, one lap showdown. The drivers winning their respective rounds will continue to advance through the bracket until they win and start on the pole for the 15 lap A-main. All rounds of the challenge will start from a dead stop at the start/finish line with two drivers going head-to-head.

Adult general admission is $12. Children ages 11-15 are admitted for $6 with everyone under the age of 10 admitted for free. Pit admittance is just $25. All current members of the Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club will be honored Saturday and admitted into the grandstands at a discounted rate. Pit side gates open at 4 p.m. and grandstands at 5 p.m. Hot laps get underway at 6 p.m. with opening ceremonies and the first green flag of the night at 7 p.m.
