Locos smack 16 hits in defeating Steam, improve to 12-3

CINCINNATI — Winning pitcher Nick Ernst (Miami of Ohio) threw six shutout innings and the Lima Locos had 16 hits in their 11-3 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League victory Tuesday night at Western Hills High School.

Ernst allowed two hits, two walks and struck out five.

Jason Sullivan (Central Michigan) had four hits and an RBI, Daino Deas II (Auburn) had three hits, including a double, and three RBI, Logan Quimuyog (James Madison) and DayFran Ortiz (UNOH) each had two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Colin Stolly (Ohio Wesleyan/Lima Central Catholic) had a hit and two RBI for the Locos.

Lima relievers Jacob Hulcher (Southern Union State), Conner Davis (Creighton) and Casey Mulcahy (Ohio Northern/Shawnee) combined to allow six hits and no walks while striking out one in three innings of work.

The Locos now have the best record in the league at 12-3 while Cincinnati fell to 11-3. The two teams will meet again tonight at the same venue.
