Locos move to top of standings, go 5-0 in home stand

LIMA — The host Locos moved into first place in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League North with a 4-1 win Saturday night against Irish Hills at Simmons Field.

Lima is 5-0 during its six-game home stand and at 9-3 is a half-game ahead of Grand Lake in the standings.

Winning pitcher Ryan Cyr (Mississippi State) threw five innings, allowing one run, five hits and two walks while striking out three, in his Locos debut. Relievers Brad Croy (Bowling Green/Ottawa-Glandorf), Eric Hepple (Central Florida) and David Nicholas Spear (Mercer) combined to allow two hits and no walks while striking out six in four innings of work.

Colin Stolly (Ohio Wesleyan/Lima Central Catholic) doubled and had three RBI and DayFran Ortiz (UNOH) had a hit and an RBI also for Lima.

Lima took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Ortiz singled to drive in David Chabut (Kennesaw State).

After the Leprechauns tied the score in the fifth, Lima took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning as Stolly plated Jacob Barnwell (Ohio State) with a ground out.

Lima will close out its home stand at 7:05 tonight against Irish Hills.
