Racing at Limaland longtime goal for Wapakoneta racer

LIMA — After several weeks of great competition at the track, racers are gearing up for Run for the Rabbit XVI tonight at Limaland Motorsports Park. The pit gate opens at 4:30 and racing begins at 7:30.

One driver who has been on a roll lately is Devon Dobie of Wapakoneta. Dobie picked up his first career victory at Limaland at the Four Banger Friday I on June 3.

“I started off well by winning the pole,” Dobie said. “It’s always nice to start up front in a feature. The track was tough to pass, which worked to our advantage. Luckily for us, we kept the car going and got the lead back after we spun out. I battled against Jared Horstman for the rest of the night. It was a fun night that I’ll remember for a long time.”

Dobie began his racing career at a young age.

“My dad got me started when I was 5 years old,” Dobie said. “I raced go-karts all the way up until 2006. I then competed in the mini-sprints at Waynesfield. We won the championship there in 2011 and in 2012, I started at Limaland.”

Competing at Limaland was always the goal for Dobie.

“Being from Wapak, I went to Limaland almost every Friday night,” Dobie said. “I’ve been around sprint car racing for a long time. I think it’s the most exciting part of auto racing to be in. The mini-sprints were a nice stepping stone for me.”

Since Dobie considers Limaland to be his home track, he always goes out and gives it his all.

“Being only 20 minutes up the road from home, my friends and family get to come watch,” Dobie said. “It’s great to win in front of those guys. I was a kid sitting in the stands and I know there are a bunch of kids watching us every week. I know there’s a kid out there hoping that someday they can do the same.”
