Tawa Run Classic this weekend at 2 sites

OTTAWA — The American Legion Baseball Tawa Run Classic is scheduled to begin today in Ottawa and Bluffton.

Pool A games at Memorial Field in Ottawa are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. today with Piqua Post 184 playing Muncie, Indiana, Post 19 followed by Adrian, Michigan, Post 97 taking on Ottawa Post 63 at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Piqua plays Adrian at 10 a.m., Muncie plays Adrian at 12:30 p.m., Piqua plays Ottawa at 3 p.m. and Muncie plays Ottawa at 5:30 p.m.

In Pool B at Bluffton University, Sidney Post 217 plays Pickerington Post 283 at 3:30 p.m. today. On Saturday, Sidney plays Findlay Post 3 at 3 p.m. and Pickerington plays Findlay at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the championship semifinals will be at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Field. The championship game will be at 3 p.m. at Memorial Field. Consolation play will begin at 10 a.m. at Bluffton.

There is no admission fee.

Swank to be honored

COLUMBUS — Van Wert’s Bill Swank will be among those honored Saturday as Officials of the Year during the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame induction banquet.

Swank is being recognized in boys cross country.

Hensel shoots

70 for low round

Britton Hensel shot a 70 to beat Jared Miller by a single shot for the low 18-hole score of the day and the boys 16-18 title at the Ohio Family Safety Open held Thursday at the par 72 Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Jill Schmitmeyer shot a 75 to win the girls 16-18 division and Christian Nartker finished with a 76 to win the boys 14-15 crown by a single shot over Gavin Harmon. In the par-36 nine-hole events, Carson Harmon (39) won the boys 12-13 title and Erin Mulcahy (42) was the girls 15 and younger winner.

The next event for the Lima Junior Golf Association McDonald’s Junior Series will be played Tuesday at The Oaks Golf Club. Go to web.golfsoftware.net/11146 for more information.
