UNOH splits in softball

CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Northwestern Ohio softball team began its annual trip to the National Training Center Spring Games on Thursday.

UNOH (7-5) pounded out 26 hits in 13 innings of play, picking up a 12-2 run-rule win over Texas Wesleyan (10-12), before dropping a tough 7-6 decision in eight innings to St. Ambrose (11-4).

Against Texas Wesleyan, Maranda Stansbery and Macey Harder had three hits each and Emily Rockman and Kayley Keller each had three RBI. Against St. Ambrose, Keller had three hits and three RBI and Shawnee graduate Shelby Lucas and Kelly Merkle had two hits apiece.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Joe Schmook and Johnny Schmook had two hits each and Shannon Conway had two RBI for OSU Lima/Rhodes State.

ANGOLA, Ind. — Ohio Northern got back to its winning ways at the Athletic Recreation Center.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-1, while the Thunder fell to 1-4.

Lynn Kelly and Brittany Toney won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 1 and 5 singles to lead ONU.
