Shawnee stays hot in WOHSBC

One week earlier it was the Lady Indians who established bragging rights at the school as a result of their hard fought victories in the Lima Senior High Baker Invitational.

While they certainly have not done anything to lose the respect of this writer or their fan base, they do have to surrender some credit to the young boys of Shawnee who on this day are tied with Wapakoneta with 4-0 conference records in the North Division of the WOHSBC.

St. Henry leads the South Division with a record of 4-0 on game up on Versailles and Coldwater.

Medalist honors for Saturday went to Britni Hosterman of Wapakoneta with a 259 game that she turned into a two game tally of 475 when she rolled a 216 in game two.

The amazing Hosterman not only led the young ladies of the North Division. Her 259 game was high for the conference on Saturday – north or south, male or female.

Hosterman’s very talented teammate Katie Manger was next for the North with a score of 247.

Wapakoneta continues to roll well in the early stages of the season, turning back St Marys 2671-2400.

Later on in the afternoon the boys of Wapakoneta would struggle, comparatively speaking in handling LCC 2444-2166. Blake Knueve would roll a 237 to pace the Redskins.

Drew Ambroza found some magic in what was a tough afternoon at St Marys and rolled the top medal score for the boys of the North as Shawnee handled Temple Christian, after an early scare 2468 – 2063.

Lima Senior High who got some early praise and love from JJ Huddle dropped a match to Van Wert 2503-2161 according to one score that I saw. We know that it was Van Wert with the victory we will clarify the score confusion.

On the ladies side of things Lima Senior behind Olivia Stein and Morgan Twining battled a very good Celina team to the end dropping the match 2079-2030. Anytime that you can take this Celina team that deep you have done well.

The young ladies of Shawnee hit a great parlay, winning the Lima Senior Invitational and then coming back and dominating New Breboys 2078-1595. Allie Meeker led the way for the Lady Indians with a 181 game.

There are some that feel that there is a lot of talent in the South Division and looking at the scores would bear that out. Of course there is always the question as to where the shot may have been more playable, Varsity or Speedway Lanes, the adopted home of the Wintburger or the 27 car pile up pizza in New Breboys.

It is really difficult to say, which of course is going to be the by-product of this season where the conferences roll in separate houses each week. One test will be the end of the year inter-divisional day at Westgate and of course the state tournaboyst where the conference has always done well.

In this past weekend Coldwater moved to 4-0 with a dominating performance over the young ladies of Mississinawa Valley 2405-1901. it was a well balanced performance with Paige Hartings 189 being the high game for the Lady Cavs.

Hannah Niekamp took medal honors with a 224 as the ladies of Versailles crushed Marion Local 2380-1753.

Clearly the schools with the great pedigree are still rolling well.

The 241 game that Ambroza rolled for north honors for the varsity boys was dwarfed in the South Division by Riley Holland of Fort Loramie, Alex Groff of Versailles and Tyler Wenning of Coldwater who rolled 255, 245 and 243 respectively on Saturday afternoon.

Somehow the Buehler boys did not break into the medal discussion but Trey Buehler added a 206 game to the 224 of Anthony Kemper and 205 of Garret Schewenzer as the total team got into the act as St Henry stayed number one in the south with a 2677-2348 defeat of Minster.

The north will be in play at Olympic Lanes in Van Wert this weekend and the south will do battle at Versailles. Girls action begins at 9:45 a.m. with the boys to compete around 1:00.
