Letter: Voting experience wasn’t the best

Tuesday my husband and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather to go and vote. Normally, now at our ages, we usually vote by absentee ballot, but due to some circumstances I didn’t get our ballots.

I thought we could park in the lot beside of the Board of Elections — wrong! You need a pass to park in that lot. I called the Board of Elections office and a man told me that there were handicap parking spaces in the lot down further, but we’d have to walk even further. I failed to say that my husband has problems walking distances and uses a cane or walker, depending on the distance.

I drove around for a while and finally was able to get a parking spot on North Main in front of the building, but we still had to walk up along the building.

As we were going in the building, we met a couple who also needed a handicap parking spot as she was using a cane.

Come on Allen County, Ohio, why can’t you provide handicap parking spaces for us? You want people to get out and vote and we wanted to vote, it is a privilege, but what a hassle.

Also we were not asked for any ID. Yes, the lady asked if we lived at sure and sure address and on the ballot it asked for several types of ID, but anybody could have used our ID and vote saying it was us. I totally agree that Ohio, especially Allen County, needs to have photo ID when voting.
