Letter: Nurses provided excellent service

I’m writing this letter to speak about the amazing service that my wife and I received at St. Rita’s Medical Center. We were blessed at the birth of our first child on Sept. 23. Soon after our son was born, one of the nurses in the operating room discovered that our son was not crying out like other babies. A quick check revealed that the oxygen level in his blood was low, which led to the discovery of a large pocket of air in his chest cavity.

Our son was placed in special care and hooked up to machines and tubes like many other babies that were there. This turned out to be a very hard site for my wife and I to see. However, the nurses on the 5th floor of St. Rita’s turned this tough situation into a relatively easy one.

The nurses made it a point to come and visit us in our room or visit our son in the special care nursery even if they were not assigned to take care of us. One nurse made it a point to hug my wife at every opportunity she had and tell her how great she was doing. As we passed nurses in the labor and delivery wing, they would stop us and ask how our son was. It’s one thing to take care of a patient by bringing medication, changing bed sheets and getting wheelchairs. But the most important and amazing thing that we received at St. Rita’s was a medical staff that cared about us, and our baby boy. Their heart for their profession shows through their work. We are so thankful for Tracy, Jen, Erika, Nicole, Casey, Heidi, Joyce, Rose, Megan, Julie, Kim, Joan, Deb and Janet.
