Letter: To the few who stand the watch

For the dedication of those who stand the watch at Lima’s federal building without pay and often without appreciation, my wife and I must add our heart-felt thanks for their service. The disintegration in this country of what was once called patriotism baffles me. The attitude of “what about me” has supplanted what’s best for our country. I wonder where we would be if the founders had felt that way.

Amazing to me is how quickly someone must rush in voicing an unfounded “worry” in order to degrade efforts by dedicated veteran citizens. They themselves don’t have the integrity or patriotism to attempt this selfless service.

Once again thanks to the few, the brave, the dedicated men and women who see the need and act accordingly.
