Letter: Doctors know best, not insurers

I recently had to undergo a surgery for a pinched nerve in my neck caused by a ruptured disc. I was privileged to have the procedure done by a most amazing surgeon in New Albany, Ohio. I have never met a more professional, caring and dedicated surgeon.

Unfortunately, many others in need of this surgery will not get the same amazing care from this surgeon. Because of the struggle our surgeons have getting insurance companies to listen to them, this surgeon has decided to sadly take an early “retirement.”

I have to say I am truly the lucky one because this man went above and beyond for me, down to the last five minutes (before we would have had to give up all together) on the phone getting my surgery approved. Please before we lose all of the great surgeons, make our insurance companies recognize that our doctors know what they are saying and doing and listen to them when submitting requests for all needed surgeries.
