Letter: Honor thy father and mother

Out of the strange coincidences that happens in all of our lives, my mother has been admitted to the same rehab nursing home, Lost Creek Rehabilitation Center, that I have been.

I am at a nursing home with my mother. When mom got here it was made completely clear to us boys that she was in danger at the little house and this was the only rational solution. What I have witnessed is a woman that came into this facility completely lost and confused. She was in ill health and it was frightening to witness this. In a month’s time I have witnessed a tremendous change.

She is 80 years old, so of course, she is still a little confused (she thinks we are in a motel), but her health both physical and mental has improved dramatically.

We like so many families swore we would never let our parents be put in a nursing home and then that day comes when it is the only solution for the well-being and safety of our loved ones. Even though I can’t wait to get on with my life, this facility has helped me tremendously, which is the goal of the combination rehab nursing home.

Let us remember that our parents, grandparents and great grandparents have everything to do with why we are here and who we are. Keep them safe and happy and loved.
