Gerrymandering is such a quirky word for a devious political practice. Webster’s dictionary defines gerrymandering as “the manipulation of voting districts in a way that gives one political party an unfair advantage in elections.” Ohio has been cited by political analysts as one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation. On Oct. 6, the very conservative Columbus Dispatch editorial board endorsed a “yes” on Issue 1.
The Washington Post identified many districts in Ohio, including districts 3, 13, and 16, as highly gerrymandered. District 4, which Jim Jordan has held for a whopping 17 years, is humorously referred to as Duck District because it resembles a duck due to extreme gerrymandering.
The vote on Issue 1 is simple. Vote yes to put gerrymandering to bed in Ohio and kick out politicians who manipulate our voting districts.
