Letter: Voters have permission who isn’t a Republican

Republicans, listen up.

You have permission. Yes, you have permission… to not vote for Donald Trump. Making this decision can be tough, especially if you’ve been a Republican all your life. People in your family have always been Republican — Mom and Dad, and now you.

Well, a whole lot of Republicans are not voting for Trump this time around. Listen to these retired military chiefs: Maj. Gen. Paul A. Eaton, Brig. Gen. Steven M. Anderson, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, Admiral James Stavridis, Admiral William M. McCraven, Gen. Barry McCaffrey, former Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and former four-star Gen. John Kelly. They all have described Trump as dangerous for America.

Now, it is rare for high-ranking leaders of the military to speak out politically. Normally, they remain independent as part of their call to service. But this election is different, and it’s because many of them have worked closely with Donald Trump in the Oval Office. They know him.

Milley said in Bob Woodword’s book, “War,” that Trump is fascist “through and through.” Kelly, Trump’s former joint chief of staff, told the New York Times that “looking at the definition of fascism… a far-right authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition,” Trump could fit the bill of a fascist: Kelly went on to explain that Trump had said he wanted generals like those that Adolf Hitler had, a comment that Kelly found shocking.”

It is shocking. And reject these Trump disciples as well, Bernie Moreno and Jim Jordan. Wipe the slate clean.
