Letter: Harris-Walz show their support of union workers

I’m a college student from Findlay, where the economy runs on working-class jobs. Many of my friends work these jobs every day to earn a living for themselves. I will be voting for the Harris-Walz ticket in 2024 for that reason. Let me explain why.

Both Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz have a record of standing with unions. As vice president, Harris led the White House task force on worker organizing and empowerment, spearheading a so-called “know your rights” initiative that educated young workers on their rights to join unions. Dozens of unions, including AFL-CIO and UAW, have endorsed Harris-Walz, recognizing their commitment to workers.

Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, on the other hand, would have disastrous consequences for the working class. He would empower companies to union-bust, taking away workers’ most powerful tool to ensure fair compensation and make it easier for corporations to cheat their hard-working employees out of overtime pay. It would allow states to ignore the federal minimum wage, resulting in a race to the bottom for the wages of millions of Americans. It would undermine President Joe Biden’s registered apprenticeship system and replace it with a system that allowed big corporations to exploit their workers.

Trump has made it very clear that he does not care about the working class, but Vice President Harris and Gov. Walz have a proven record of fighting to make sure that every American is fairly compensated, treated with dignity, and has the freedom to unionize.
