Letter: Understand the candidates’ philosophies before voting

The presidential debates are over, and there will not be a third debate, according to Donald Trump, who feels that it’s too late for another public symposium.

I disagree with Trump on the basis that voters deserve the right to ingest as much information as possible for their well-being. So, when I researched the basis of the candidates’ approaches to America, I found some interesting information about their philosophical positions.

Trump is affiliated with and has held fundraisers for a conservative think-tank called American First Policy Institute that became public in 2021. The group’s broad publicly released agenda focuses on deregulation of the federal government, greater rights for religious groups and an aggressive crackdown on crime, among other issues. It supports greater oil and gas production, the completion of the border wall and the limitation of federal spending.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been affiliated with a 20-year-old think-tank referred to as the Center for American Progress. The group is an independent, nonpartisan policy institute that is dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action. CAP applies creative approaches to develop ideas for policymakers that lead to real change.

Knowing the basis of their philosophy gives the American voter a better understanding of the person as well as their purposes for our country.
