Allen County commissioners approve land annexation by Lima

LIMA — The Allen County commissioners approved a measure Thursday to approve a special annexation of nearly 10 acres of land in the 2200 block of North Cole Street from American Township to the City of Lima, echoing a similar resolution passed by Lima council in September.

The annexation of this property, consisting of 9.8 acres owned by Health Partners of Western Ohio, is special in that the taxes for that land will still go to American Township, while municipal services, zoning and road maintenance will fall under the auspices of the city.

“It’s basically a non-withdrawl,” Board of Commissioners Clerk Brittany Woods said. “They’re not leaving the township, essentially, for tax purposes. It basically allows for zoning by the city, municipal zoning permits, utilities, snow removal, fire protection, police protection and refuse services.”

Woods noted the American Township trustees did not voice any objections to the annexation.
