Delphos St. John’s schools remain closed after fire

DELPHOS — Delphos St. John Catholic Schools will remain closed for the remainder of the week as school officials work to mitigate smoke damage from an electrical fire.

The fire originated from an empty dryer in the maintenance area early Monday morning, according to a Facebook post from Fr. Jeffrey Walker, pastor of St. John Catholic Schools.

The fire did not cause any injuries, as no staff or students were present at the time.

Walker said the schools intend to reopen for students by Monday, though some classrooms and the cafeteria may remain closed for additional smoke remediation.

Parents will be notified Sunday once school officials determine whether it is safe for students to return.
