Mother promotes safe sleep in wake of SIDs

LIMA — A mother whose infant daughter died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome wants families to practice safe sleep.

Lacey Hefner, a registered nurse at Lima Memorial Health System, donated 60 safe sleep sacks to the hospital’s family birthing center Tuesday in memory of her daughter, Rylee. Rylee died from SIDs in 2016 at three months, 11 days old.

“Every day, I carry my daughter Rylee’s memory with me,” Hefner said in a news release. “Donating these sleep sacks is not only a way for us to honor her life but to raise awareness about safe sleep practices.

“My hope is that by bringing awareness and providing these resources, we can prevent other families from experiencing loss due to SIDs or an unsafe sleep environment.”
