Autism workshop coming to OSU-Lima

LIMA — The Ohio State University-Lima will host free autism workshops and facilitator training inspired by the works of William Shakespeare in October.

The workshops are designed for participants ages 8 to 22.

Participants practice social skills such as eye contact, spatial awareness and recognition of facial expressions using the rhythm of Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter, which creates a “calming, predictable and enjoyable environment,” according to a news release.

The first workshop for children will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the G. Gilbert Cloyd Student Commons on the lower level of Galvin Hall on the Lima campus, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima.

Members of the public who are at least 18 years old are invited to attend a free teaching artist training session to become a facilitator for the Shakespeare and Autism Project, which will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in the same location.

Space is limited. Register online at go.osu.edu/lima-shakespeare-2024.
