WOCAP shares info on lead abatement

LIMA — The West Ohio Community Action Partnership shared information on how to prevent lead poisoning in children at Wednesday’s Lima mayoral press conference.

Common sources of lead can be paint, soil, water pipes, products such as toys or jewelry, imported foods and medicines, jobs and hobbies such as stained-glass work.

Even low levels of lead in blood can hurt a child’s ability to learn, pay attention and do well in school, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Families can lower lead levels in children by making a plan for treatment with a doctor, finding the lead in the home, cleaning up lead dust, giving children healthy foods and getting support from the local health department.
