Mental evaluation ordered for man accused of robbery

LIMA — A homeless man’s attorney filed a request for a mental evaluation for the man to determine his competence to stand trial Friday in the Allen County Common Pleas Court after the man recently pleaded not guilty on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

The charges against Rashad Roberson, 29, originated from an incident June 27 when officers were dispatched to the area of McKibben Street and Elizabeth Street due to a man with a stab wound. Roberson allegedly assaulted the man with a knife when he tried to steal the man’s cell phone.

Two people witnessed the incident and saw the knife in Roberson’s hand. Roberson later admitted to the incident.

Roberson is currently being held in the Allen County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
