Brown veterans bill passes Senate

LIMA — The U.S. Senate passed the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022 Thursday, two days after the House of Representatives did.

The bipartisan bill, written by Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, ensures the Department of Veteran Affairs can pay disability compensation, surviving spouses and dependent compensation, pension and education benefits to veterans scheduled for Oct. 1.

Without the bill being signed by Sept. 20, payments to more than 7 million veterans would be delayed due to a $3 billion shortfall at the VA.
