House passes veterans bill based on Brown legislation

LIMA — The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed legislation to protect veterans’ benefits and the Veterans Administration’s ability to pay disability compensation, surviving spouses and dependent compensation, pension and education benefits to veterans Wednesday.

The legislation is aimed at closing the $3 billion gap the VA faces by Sept. 20 that could cause a delay in compensation and pension payments scheduled to go to more than seven million veterans by Oct. 1 and is based on Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D-Ohio) bipartisan senate bill.
