Lima mayor proclaims Frontotemporal Degeneration Awareness Week

LIMA — Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith proclaimed the week Frontotemporal Degeneration Awareness Week on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The brain disorders are caused by degeneration in the frontal and temporal lobes and are often misdiagnosed as mental illness and is the most common form of dementia for people under the age of 60.

Symptoms can include personality changes, apathy and struggles with decision-making, movement, speaking or language comprehension.
